I have to say that, right? That this is my first blog post?
I have lots of ideas I want to put up here to share. I've been putting off posting because I wanted to start my first post with the first project that first made me think I might want to start a blog. But that hasn't happened cause I have two kids and too many projects I want to do and getting into my sewing room doesn't happen very often. So I'll save it for later and start with this - something simpler, quicker but still, I hope, handy.
I hate winter. Mostly. I like parts of it - the pretty snow and...well, I think that's about it. Cause I hate being cold (all the time) and I hate all the work it takes to get outside (hats, gloves, scarf, boots, coats, etc.) and I hate the mess it brings back inside (wet boots, gloves and coats and hats everywhere) and I hate trying to track all that junk down when I'm trying to get my kids out the door. So why not just make my own spot right on my son's coat for all the stuff he needs. Here's my solution: a couple little loops of elastic to hold a hat and a scarf.
I folded his hat in two and wrapped a piece of elastic around it to get an idea of how big to make the loop - not so loose that it would fall out if the coat is being carried around, not so tight that it's hard to get it in; I'd like him to be able to do this himself. Then I guessed on the size for the scarf loop because he left his scarf at school today. I took one length of elastic and sewed it together at the end to make a big loop and then sewed the middle of the big loop to his coat to make two smaller loops. And they're labeled too, just for fun and cutesies. My first attempt at embroidery.
And there it is with the hat all tucked in tight. Awaiting scarf if we can actually recover it from school on Thursday...
I'll use his coat as the test run and I might just end up with these on my coats too.
